Giriraj Amarnath is the Research Group Leader for the Water Risks and Disasters (WRD) theme at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI). He specialises in monitoring floods and droughts, rapid emergency response mapping, remote sensing data and image processing, geographical information systems, satellite-based rainfall estimates, drought forecasting, hydrological modeling, flood forecasting and inundation modeling, weather-index insurance, food security, agricultural water management, climate change, and disaster risk management. He is also carrying out work under the CGIAR Research Program on Water, Land and Ecosystems (WLE).
