Bogotà is the third most important startup hub in Latin America. The Colombian capital startup ecosystem is growing fast and could soon overtake San Paulo and Mexico City in this very special ranking thanks to its startups, universities, and growing investors network.
Bogotà is obviously home to several sustainable startups. In this article, we review five companies that are working on innovative projects while also caring for the environment and helping the local community.
Five Sustainable Startups from Bogotà
Planet Oliver
Planet Oliver has a solution to tackle the issue of food waste in restaurants. The startup, in collaboration with local restaurants, offers convenient-priced dishes created with leftover ingredients. The idea is to avoid throwing good food away at the end of the day.
It is a solution similar to what is offered by another successful startup Too Good To Go, in Europe and North America. According to Planet Oliver, users could save up to 75% on their meals while also fighting food waste. For now, this service is only available in Bogorà and Barranquilla. Will Planet Oliver open in the rest of the country soon?
SAJù
Sajù is headquartered in Bogotà, It is a store where customers can create glasses from their debris or plastic waste. The startup was actually born as a “standard” company selling colorful glasses.
It turned, however, into a one-of-a-kind and sustainable glasses production company. Thanks to the Sajù Experience, clients can build 100% recycled glasses by bringing their own debris or plastic waste. It is, for now, the only place in the world where it is possible to do that.
Kiwibot
Have you ever imagined finding a cute robot delivering food to your doorstep? In Bogotà, a futuristic alternative to delivery services is already a reality. The start-up Kiwibot is working on the largest robotic last-mile delivery network. It aims to make logistics, technology, and delivery accessible to everyone.
These friendly semi-autonomous robots are socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable. They help local businesses achieve zero emissions delivery. What would you think if you run into one of them on the streets?

Refurbi
Refurbi is an online platform that provides reconditioned phones at half the price of the new device. The company from Bogotà, which just a week ago closed a $ 4.4M seed round, ensures that the reconditioned devices’ quality is almost “like new” thanks to a very rigorous process.
Electronic waste is a serious threat to the environment. Reusing, recycling, and in general extending the lifespan of electronic devices could be a solution to reduce this problem.
Amazoniko
The last startup from our list of sustainable startups from Bogotà is Amazóniko. It is an educational startup that aims to educate people about recycling. Once users have signed up on the Amazoniko website, the startup provides a guide on properly recycling waste.
Users then have to start putting into practice the theory. As an incentive, they can accumulate points for every time they collect waste. These points, of course, are expendable to obtain discounts and benefits on Amazóniko‘s allied brands.
Amazoniko claims that more than 6300 people completed the training so far. On 20.200 occasions, participants collected waste. In total, they collected more than 290 tons of recyclable material!
