Having researched alternatives to expensive and untrustworthy, store-bought hair products, we discovered there are many household ingredients that can double as hair strengtheners, softeners, or thickeners. Some may surprise you.
For Thicker Hair
Onion Juice
Onion juice is loaded with sulfur, which promotes strong and thick hair. It prevents it from thinning and nourishes growing follicles. To apply, grind two or three onions in a mixer and strain them through a thin cloth to extract their juice.
To ensure a soothing treatment, mix the juice with honey or oil which eases irritation of the scalp. Apply the mixture to your hair and let it soak for twenty minutes. Wash it out with cool water.
For Softer Hair
Avocado
Avocado oil is a natural restorer of healthy fats and moisture when applied to the roots. A heavy dollop left to soak for thirty minutes can repair damage and leave your hair supple and super soft.
It’s already found in many store-bought products, but by using only the avocado, you’re omitting the risk of other potentially toxic ingredients.
For Strength
Eggs
Eggs are filled with vitamins and amino acids that are beneficial to our scalp and hair follicles. Integrating eggs into your hair care routine even just once a week can make it healthier and appear thicker.
Apply one raw egg to your scalp for approximately twenty minutes to promote less breakage and shedding. Be sure to rinse with cool water as hot water may cause the egg to thicken.

For Length
Coffee
A 2007 study found that caffeine stimulated hair shaft elongation, resulting in longer and wider roots. Additionally, it prolonged the stage of growth, leading to stronger and longer hair.
Pour cold coffee into a spray bottle and spray into your wet root. Massage the scalp with your fingers and leave it for at least twenty minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water for best results.
For Friz
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a natural saturated fat that can tame frizz and ease irritated or flaky scalps. It can be used as an overnight treatment or washed out after twenty minutes, depending on the level of damage.
You don’t need expensive products to achieve healthy hair. Maybe your next best remedy is already under your roof.
