The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has officially launched the UNIDO Foundation — a new mechanism to mobilize private sector resources and expertise in support of inclusive and sustainable industrial development worldwide.

The UNIDO Foundation is operated as a fiscally sponsored programme, with contributions channelled through the Global Impact (a U.S.-based non-profit organization), thus enabling tax-efficient giving for eligible donations.

“The UNIDO Foundation is a powerful new tool to drive sustainable economic and industrial development together with the private sector”, said UNIDO Director General Gerd Müller. “It creates a permanent platform for companies to move beyond individual initiatives and become architects of systemic and lasting impact”.

The UNIDO Foundation will pool resources from private sector partners and direct them towards a portfolio of high-impact flagship initiatives from industrial decarbonization and sustainable value chains to renewable energy and food systems transformation.

The first five founding partners (as well as subsequent partners meeting the eligibility criteria) will be represented on the Foundation’s Advisory Board, an exclusive consultative body that meets annually at C-suite level with UNIDO leadership, which will guide the Foundation’s strategic direction, inform its work programme, and contribute industry expertise to UNIDO’s mission.

Festo Holding GmbH, a global leader in industrial automation and a UNIDO partner of more than 20 years, announced that it will become the first Founding Partner of the UNIDO Foundation.

The UNIDO Foundation is actively engaging additional founding partners; with only five Founding Partner seats available, interested organizations are encouraged to contact the UNIDO Foundation Secretariat directly.
