European Commission clears €63bn French offshore wind support scheme
The European Commission has approved a €63 billion French state aid scheme to support the construction and operation of 11 offshore wind farms over the next 25 years.
The projects, located in the North Sea, the Atlantic, and the Mediterranean, are expected to deliver up to 11.1 GW of capacity. They will generate 47.8 TWh of renewable electricity annually — equivalent to more than 10% of France’s annual electricity consumption.
The scheme was approved under the EU’s Clean Industrial Deal State Aid Framework (CISAF), introduced in May 2025 to accelerate the deployment of renewable energy and the manufacturing of clean technology. The aid will be provided through “a transparent and non-discriminatory bidding process”. It will take the form of a variable premium under a two-way contract for difference (‘CfD’), with payments linked to electricity market prices.

OMV secures €450m loan for major green hydrogen plant in Austria

OMV has secured a €450 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) to support construction of one of Europe’s largest green hydrogen plants in Austria. The 140 MW facility, under construction in Bruck an der Leitha, is expected to begin operations by the end of 2027, with total investment reaching €600 million.
The plant will produce up to 23,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually for OMV’s Schwechat refinery. The company said the project will cut carbon emissions by around 150,000 tonnes a year, equivalent to about 10% of the refinery’s current direct emissions.
The project forms part of OMV’s Strategy 2030, which aims to shift from oil and gas production to renewable fuels and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The EIB said the investment would strengthen Europe’s energy security and replace fossil-based hydrogen with renewable alternatives.

Meta workers sue over alleged AI use in layoff decisions

Twenty-six Meta employees have filed a lawsuit accusing the company of using AI-powered systems to target workers with disabilities or on medical leave during mass layoffs. The plaintiffs are seeking to block planned job cuts while they pursue discrimination claims.
The lawsuit alleges Meta used AI-assisted tools, productivity scores and employee data, including communications, documents, keystrokes, and browser activity, to rank workers for termination. The plaintiffs claim the process violated anti-discrimination laws protecting disabled workers and employees taking medical leave.
Meta denied the allegations, saying “workforce management and organizational decisions were and are made by people, not AI.” The lawsuit follows Meta’s decision to cut nearly 8,000 jobs, or 10% of its global workforce, in May.

Deloitte launches new sustainability valuation framework

Deloitte has launched Sustainability Fusion, a new framework and AI-enabled tool designed to help companies quantify the financial value of sustainability investments. The platform translates environmental initiatives into business metrics, including cost savings, revenue opportunities, and risk reduction.
The tool maps sustainability projects against key financial drivers and translates assumptions into potential cash-flow impacts, enabling companies to compare and prioritize investments using a consistent approach.
The solution was developed with the Aspen Institute following workshops involving more than 25 corporate, NGO, and advisory leaders. Deloitte said the tool responds to growing pressure on companies to demonstrate the business value of sustainability spending.
