What if there is a better option than pads? Like menstrual knickers. Here are the benefits you must know

When it’s that time of the month, most of us rely on disposable menstrual products like pads, liners, and tampons to get by. It’s what the vast majority of women do without thinking twice.

But what if we forget all those period products for something much easier like menstrual knickers? Back in the day, they didn’t exist, but now they are, and there are a variety of options to choose from.

What exactly are menstrual knickers ?

Menstrual knickers are basically period underwear or pants that you wear during your period. They are used instead of traditional sanitary products such as tampons and pads and made to absorb the flow of your period and come in a variety of styles and thicknesses depending on how heavy your period is.

Just like period pads and liners, they have antimicrobial and moisture-wicking properties to help prevent odours, and one of their key benefits is that they are reusable.

Moreover, you can use them on their own to absorb your period, or you can use them with tampons or menstrual cups to help prevent leaks.

Is it possible to wear it all day?

It could all depend on when you plan to wear them during your period and how heavy your flow is. If your period isn’t too heavy, you might be able to wear period underwear throughout the day. But, you could use it alongside tampons or a menstrual cup, for the day you have quite a heavy period.

What about the simple way to wash your menstrual knickers?

  • Begin by rinsing them thoroughly in cold water;
  • Delicate cycle in your washing machine, cold-wash cycle only (laundry bag is a must);
  • Leave them dry on their own.

So, what are the benefits of menstrual knickers?

  •  They are much better for the environment.

A woman’s lifetime use of pads and tampons ranges between 5 and 15,000 units, including all the packaging that comes with them.

These same products are also ending up in landfills, contributing to the global pollution crisis, and because many of them contain plastic or have plastic packaging, their environmental impact is long-lasting.

  • Natural and Simple

It might take some time to get used to the idea of bleeding directly through your re-used underwear. Some even find it much better than using tampons and menstrual cups, since it is made to feel more natural, just like wearing pants.

  • Less Expensive

Because you don’t have to throw them away after each use, unlike traditional menstrual products, which have a lifetime cost of more than £12,000 or €14,000. Not only, less waste which is better for our planet, but also it comes with a much cheaper cost.

  • They can be worn while swimming

There’s no reason why you can’t swim in them if your period isn’t too heavy because you’re literally wearing swim-proof period underwear.

  • Comfy and Stylish

It’s easy to assume that period underwear looks old-fashioned, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. They come in a variety of styles, including thongs, bikini-style, lacey, and full knickers, which make them look and feel more like a ‘normal’ pair of knickers.
