Trump’s tariffs take effect: trade tensions rise as markets eye inflation data

Trump’s 25% tariffs on all imported steel and aluminum have taken effect, impacting over $150 billion in trade. Despite prior discussions, Australia confirmed it won’t impose reciprocal tariffs. Meanwhile, gold prices remain steady at $2,916.69 an ounce as markets await key U.S. inflation data, which could influence the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decisions. Analysts suggest that if inflation stays high, the Fed may maintain elevated rates, potentially weakening gold’s appeal as a non-yielding asset. Investors are closely watching the CPI report for further economic signals. Investors are turning to ESG solutions to navigate market volatility as Trump’s tariffs and Fed rate decisions impact global trade and gold prices.

Cities face ‘whiplash’ of floods, droughts as temperatures rise, study warns

A study by WaterAid reveals that extreme weather swings between droughts and floods are intensifying in major cities due to climate change. South and Southeast Asia face worsening floods, while Europe, the Middle East, and North Africa are drying up. Hangzhou and Jakarta top the list for “climate whiplash.” Cities like Mumbai are getting wetter, while Cairo and Hong Kong are drying out. Experts warn that urban infrastructure must adapt to shifting climate patterns.

Amazon’s AI innovations boost sustainability and energy efficiency

Amazon’s AI-powered tools, FlowMS and BBAM, are enhancing energy efficiency across 120 sites, detecting leaks, miscalibrated meters, and HVAC inefficiencies. FlowMS identified a faulty valve in Glasgow, preventing the loss of 9 million gallons of water annually. BBAM optimizes HVAC and dock door operations, reducing energy waste. Additionally, the ARM system ensures refrigeration efficiency, preventing food loss. Amazon plans to expand these AI solutions to over 300 buildings by 2025, supporting its net-zero emissions goal by 2040.
