Katrina Wesencraft - Editor-in-Chief of theGIST

Katrina is the Editor In Chief of theGIST, an award-winning, student-led science and technology media outlet. She is a PhD student in Optical Medical Imaging with Healthcare Innovation and Entrepreneurship, splitting her time between the Universities of Strathclyde and Edinburgh. Working with clinicians, her research concerns pancreatic islet transplantation. This experimental treatment can result in freedom from insulin injections and reversal of complications for people with type 1 diabetes. She is using a giant microscope called the Mesolens, performing unprecedented analysis to assess transplant viability and inform the design of 3D bio-printed tissue. She is a STEM Ambassador, and is passionate about engaging with communities that are often overlooked.
