Alicia Bárcena is the Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). She previously served as the Under-Secretary-General for Management at the United Nations Headquarters and as Chef de Cabinet to former Secretary-General Kofi Annan. A biologist by training, Ms. Bárcena has published numerous articles on sustainable development, public policy, environmental issues and public participation.
