Sarah Marder - Social Impact Filmmaker

An ex-corporate communicator and CSR manager who is now a social impact filmmaker. Raised on a farm in Kansas and with a degree in International Relations, Sarah has lived in Italy since 1988. After 22 years with Citigroup, Sarah left the bank in 2008 to find new ways to apply her professional skills, creative bent and social sensibilities. Her work explores the relationship between man and place. She recently completed her first feature-length documentary, THE GENIUS OF A PLACE.

Sarah is the mother of four children. Motherhood made her so acutely aware of environmental degradation throughout the world that she felt the need to communicate in a powerful, direct and human way about issues that concerned her. She chose filmmaking as her medium as it is widely accepted as by far the most powerful tool for sharing ideas and motivating people to change. She believes that our current societal paradigm is carrying mankind toward grave harm and perhaps even extinction.

Sarah recently founded the NGO Wise Places and wants to tell stories that contribute to the emergence of a new narrative, respectful of life and all that sustains us. She knows in her bones that if we protect Nature, she will protect us.
