Taiwan has been in the headlines quite a lot recently amid the tensions between US and China, but did you know Taiwan has a very exciting sustainable startup ecosystem too? In this article, we look at 4 cleantech startups from Taiwan.
Taiwan is home to several hi-tech companies. The largest ones are working in the electronics and semiconductor industries. Nine Taiwanese companies are included in the Fortune 500 list, and six of them are working in these sectors. Considering all that, it is no surprise that Taiwan is home to some very innovative cleantech startups.
Taiwan cleantech startups are thriving and they are receiving attention from all the stakeholders. The startups from our list have received investments, prizes, or other forms of support in the last year.

4 Cleantech Startups from Taiwan
Gaius automotive launched a new electric tricycle for commercial logistics that is very practical for last mile – zero emissions – urban delivery. The tricycle has a 210 km range and can carry up to 200kg. This cleantech startup from Taiwan has recently received an investment from Chroma ATE that will supply electric control units (ECUs) to Gaius tricycles too.
Ubiik
Ubiik develops IoT tech solutions with the aim to improve reliability and efficiency in the energy sector. The company has built an AMI – Advanced Metering Infrastructure – that uses low-power wide area network (LPWAN) communication systems. These are key elements to energy efficiency in buildings and Ubiik is the world’s leading manufacturer of these devices. The startup completed its $5M series A round in the summer of last year.
Gogoro
Gogoro is a Taiwanese company that has decided to take on the electric vehicles range issue from a very different angle. Gogoro has developed a platform for battery-swapping and refueling for scooters, mopeds, and motorcycles. It has over 500k subscribers around the world and has recently launched its service in Tel Aviv, Israel. Gogoro is also in the process of launching a pilot project in Singapore.
nextDrive
Nextdrive is a startup from Taiwan working in the energy sector. The company actually calls itself an Internet of Energy company as they provide smart energy management solutions for homes and businesses, with the goal of reducing energy consumption. It completed its $ 31M Series C round at the end of 2021 with the goal to grow both in Taiwan and internationally.
