IFFO Global Standard for Responsible Supply (IFFO RS)
Certificate Description
The Global Standard for Responsible Supply (IFFO RS) is an independent business-to-business certification programme for the production of marine ingredients.
The Standard was developed as the fishmeal and fish oil industry continued to expand, thereby causing an increasing need for the industry as a whole to demonstrate its commitment to responsible practices in the way of sourcing, manufacture and supply. It aims to support sustainable market growth, decrease the impact the industry has on the environment, and provide stakeholders with a tool to demonstrate responsible practice, the IFFO Governance Board (IFFO RS GB) put together a multi-stakeholder Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to develop a Global Standard for the Responsible Supply (IFFO RS) of marine ingredients.
The Global Sustainable Supply Chains for Marine Commodities (GMC) project was developed with the technical support of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with an aim to contribute to the transformation of the seafood market by mainstreaming sustainability in the value chain of fishery commodities from developing countries.
