Fairtrade International Gold Standard
Certificate Description
The Fairtrade Gold Standard aims to improve working conditions for miners and strengthened mining organizations and their capacity to lobby for a range of improvements and benefits.
The overall objective of this standard is to create opportunities for artisanal and small-scale miners and their communities, by promoting the formalization of the artisanal and small-scale mining (ASM) sector through establishing membership-based artisanal and small-scale mining organizations (ASMO). The standard aims at banning all forms of conflict minerals from the gold supply chain, so that the gold trade does not fuel instability and conflict in mining areas.
The standard is developed and managed by Fairtrade International, whose mission is to enable farmers and workers to have more control over their lives and decide how to invest in their future.
