Best Practice Guidance (BPG)
Certificate Description
The Best Practice Guidance for the Early Years (BPG) is a document developed by professionals in Kent, United Kingdom, to offer advice and guidance to Early Years practitioners in supporting all children, including those with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), to achieve their potential.
The document has two purposes: the opportunity to evaluate inclusive practice in general, and the identification of specific strategies that can be used to support individual children or groups of children. It provides an overview of the underpinning knowledge and understanding required to meet the needs of all children at universal, targeted and personalised levels.
The BPG should be read in conjunction with the SEND Code of Practice: 0-25 and also sits alongside and complements the ‘Mainstream Core Standards for all Learners’ document for mainstream schools. It has been developed utilising the knowledge and expertise of the Specialist Teaching and Learning Service for Early Years (STLS), Early Years and Childcare Advisers and Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCo) in early years settings.
