ASC Seaweed Standard
Certificate Description
The Seaweed Standard contributes to the health of the world’s aquatic ecosystems by promoting environmentally sustainable and socially responsible use of seaweed resources.
The Seaweed Standard sets a number of requirements for seaweed harvesting and farming practices. Environmentally, seaweed operations must show that they actively minimise their impact on the surrounding natural environment. Socially, seaweed operations must be managed in a responsible manner. Producers must care for their employees, work with the local community and be good and conscientious neighbours.
ASC is a programme to transform the world’s seafood markets and promote the best environmental and social aquaculture performance. They work with scientists, conservation groups, NGOs, aquaculture producers, seafood processors, retail and foodservice companies and consumers to recognise and reward responsible aquaculture.
